Volkswagen Tayron R-Line launched in Malaysia with 265PS, 4MOTION from RM237,490
The Tayron range in Malaysia now has a clear performance-led flagship. The new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line keeps the same seven-seat, locally assembled formula as the Elegance, but adds a 265PS 2.0 TSI, 4MOTION all-wheel drive and DCC Pro instead of treating R-Line as a styling exercise.
That distinction matters because the price step is significant. The Tayron R-Line carries a Peninsular Malaysia recommended retail price of RM237,490, while the on-the-road price without insurance rises to RM250,074 when the RM11,500 Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP) is included.

A different powertrain, not merely a different trim
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine producing 265PS and 400Nm from 1,650 to 4,350rpm. It is paired with a seven-speed wet-clutch DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, giving the seven-seat SUV a 0-100km/h time of 6.1 seconds.
DCC Pro is also standard, using adjustable twin-valve dampers. The chassis combines a MacPherson front layout with a four-link rear suspension. Together, these changes move the R-Line beyond the 1.5 eTSI Elegance in both performance and chassis specification.
Volkswagen quotes WLTP combined fuel consumption of 8.5L/100km and a 55-litre fuel tank. Real-world consumption will naturally vary with traffic, equipment, weather and driving style.
Understanding the RM237,490 and RM250,074 figures
For Peninsular Malaysia, RM237,490 is the recommended retail price including local duties and sales tax. The on-the-road price without insurance or VAP is RM238,574. Add the RM11,500 VAP and the on-the-road figure becomes RM250,074, still excluding insurance.
In East Malaysia, the recommended retail price is RM240,290 including RM2,800 freight. The on-the-road price without insurance or VAP is RM240,940, or RM252,440 with VAP.
VAP provides a five-year manufacturer warranty, five years of scheduled maintenance or 75,000km, whichever comes first, and five years of roadside assistance. The service interval is 15,000km or 12 months. Without VAP, the vehicle carries a two-year manufacturer warranty and five years of roadside assistance.
The Tayron Elegance is priced at RM189,890 in Peninsular Malaysia, placing the R-Line RM47,600 higher. That premium covers far more than cosmetic R-Line parts: the 2.0 TSI, 4MOTION, DCC Pro, 20-inch wheels and additional comfort equipment define the upper model.

Sportier details without losing the Tayron proportions
The R-Line receives model-specific front and rear bumpers and grille treatment, 20-inch black York wheels with 255/40 R20 tyres, plus IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlamps with advanced high-beam control, dynamic cornering and poor-weather lighting.
Illuminated Volkswagen emblems and light strips appear at both ends, while the rear uses 3D LED tail lamps with dynamic indicators. Illuminated door-handle recesses, roof rails and an integrated rear spoiler round out the exterior package.

The cabin moves closer to flagship territory
Varenna leather ergoActive Plus front sports seats bring 12-way electric adjustment, memory, heating, ventilation, pneumatic lumbar support and massage. Ten pneumatic massage elements allow adjustable intensity with programmes running for roughly 10 to 30 minutes.
A heated multifunction sports steering wheel, 30-colour ambient lighting and three-zone Air Care Climatronic are also included, reinforcing that this is still intended to work as a family SUV rather than a performance model that sacrifices everyday comfort.

15-inch infotainment and a 700W Harman Kardon system
The digital interface combines a 15-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment display running MIB4 with a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro and a head-up display. Volkswagen's IDA voice assistant is included, together with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Two phones can be charged wirelessly at up to 15W at the same time. The Harman Kardon system uses a 10+1 speaker layout, dedicated subwoofer, 16-channel digital amplifier and 700W output. There are two USB-C ports in front and another two rear charging ports rated at up to 45W.

Seven seats remain central to the package
The Tayron R-Line measures 4,792mm long, 1,866mm wide and 1,666mm tall, with a 2,790mm wheelbase. Its second row is split 40:20:40 and can slide fore and aft, while the third row uses a 50:50 split.
With all seven seats in use, luggage capacity is 345 litres. Folding the second and third rows increases maximum cargo volume to 1,905 litres. An Easy Open & Close hands-free powered tailgate is standard.

Nine airbags and the full IQ.DRIVE suite
Safety equipment includes nine airbags, including a front-centre airbag. The IQ.DRIVE package brings Travel Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection and autonomous emergency braking, plus Rear Traffic Alert, Exit Warning and Emergency Assist.
Park Assist Plus, Park Distance Control and Area View 360-degree cameras cover low-speed manoeuvring, while Proactive Passenger Protection, driver attention and drowsiness monitoring, TPMS, ESC and ISOFIX are also listed.
Launch offer applies to the first 69 Tayron buyers
The early Merdeka offer is described for the first 69 Tayron buyers, not only R-Line customers. It includes seven years of free maintenance, complimentary accident and key protection, and a chance to win a three-day, two-night luxury trip, subject to official terms and conditions.
Both the Tayron Elegance and Tayron R-Line are also being displayed at the Volkswagen Tour at 1 Utama Shopping Centre's LUXE Ground Floor until 31 August 2026.
The R-Line changes the Tayron's role in Malaysia more than its badges suggest. It adds a genuinely different engine, all-wheel drive and adaptive chassis while retaining seven-seat practicality. The RM47,600 jump over the Elegance is substantial, so the decision comes down to whether buyers value the 265PS, 4MOTION and DCC Pro package enough to pay for the performance layer on top of the family-SUV brief.
