More than a new car: three Honda Prelude owners and the journeys that brought them here

A car purchase is not always about the quickest acceleration time or the longest equipment list. Sometimes it arrives at the end of a much longer personal journey. Honda Malaysia recently brought together three All-New Prelude owners whose reasons for choosing the coupe could hardly be more different; yet each story shows how a familiar nameplate can become tied to a particular stage of life.

The owners were Gan Ker Beng, Wahiduzaman Bin Abu Kashim and Dr. Davina Navreet Kaur, invited by Honda Malaysia to share the stories behind their All-New Prelude ownership.

Gan Ker Beng: the car he could not afford in the 1990s

For Johor Bahru entrepreneur Gan Ker Beng, the story began decades before the new Prelude reached Malaysian roads. His first Honda was a Civic in the 1990s, but even then the Prelude was already the car he wanted.

He could not afford one at the time. When Honda announced the Prelude's return to Malaysia many years later, the decision carried more emotional weight than a normal new-car purchase.

Gan's connection to the car is not primarily about performance figures. What matters to him is the Prelude name, the memories attached to it and his long relationship with Honda. In that sense, the new car closes a circle that began when he was much younger.

Wahiduzaman: performance, but for a different stage of life

Kuala Lumpur business owner Wahiduzaman Bin Abu Kashim comes to the Prelude from another direction. A long-time Honda enthusiast, he has owned several performance-oriented Honda models over the years.

As his lifestyle evolved, however, he began looking for a car that could keep the sense of driver involvement while fitting more comfortably into everyday life.

After driving the Prelude, he was drawn to its driver-focused character and the sharper rhythm created by S+ Shift Technology. His story is less about recreating an old sports car and more about finding a contemporary grand tourer that still speaks the language familiar to a Honda enthusiast.

Dr. Davina: her first Honda, and the red coupe she imagined as a teenager

For endodontist Dr. Davina Navreet Kaur, the All-New Prelude is her first Honda.

Growing up in Subang, she remembers seeing classic Preludes around her neighbourhood and admiring them from a distance. She had also wanted a red coupe since her teenage years. When the new Prelude arrived, she placed a booking without first taking a test drive.

What resonates with her is not an aggressive image but the opposite: the car's understated stance and quiet sophistication. Owning the red Prelude has become a personal marker of having reached a point in life on her own terms.

The part of the Prelude story that does not fit into a specification table

Honda Malaysia positions the All-New Prelude as a driver-focused grand tourer, combining hybrid technology with S+ Shift Technology in an effort to keep a stronger sense of driving rhythm in an electrified car.

Those technical ideas matter, but these three owners highlight another role for the revived nameplate. Gan is completing a dream postponed for decades. Wahiduzaman is adapting his enthusiasm for performance to a different lifestyle. Davina is turning a car she watched from afar into one she now owns herself.

For a nameplate returning after a long absence, that accumulated memory may be just as important as the technology under the bodywork.

In a market dominated by SUVs, crossovers and electrification, a two-door hybrid coupe will never be the most universal choice. That may be exactly why the Prelude matters to the people who want one. Specifications change from generation to generation; what keeps a nameplate alive for decades is often the memory, aspiration and identity that owners have attached to it.
